Read more, watch more, and listen more... Learn how your writing is different/similar to others. Study other creative writers and storytellers and apply techniques to your own writing. 2. Spend time writing. You must write. Start writing and keep writing as much as possible. 3. Collaborate with other writers and join writing groups. UNTRADITIONAL WRITING ADVICE ON HOW TO GET BETTER AT WRITING: 4. Take off your writing hat, put on your producer hat, and then think like a producer. It's easier to assess your own writing if you pretend you're the producer, not the writer. 5. Use oral storytelling to learn what works with live audiences. Tell stories out loud to friends, family, and strangers. Watch how they react to different techniques. Determine what works and what doesn't. 6. Read your writing out loud. If you struggle to read your own writing, your audience might as well. Read your own writing out loud and smooth it out. TOTALLY UNEXPECTED WRITING ADVICE ON HOW TO GET BETTER AT WRITING: 7. Keep living and observing. Keep track of your lived experience. Note how things shift and change. Work everything you learn into your writing. 8. Learning how to apply entrepreneurial principles into crafting your product (your writing). Develop books, poems, screenplays, and all your other writing like entrepreneurs develop products. 9. Understand yourself. Know your "why." Why are you a writer? Why are you writing what you're writing right now? Know the answers! BONUS: 10. Seek meaning, seek to have an impact, and understand the metaphysical/spiritual aspects of your writing. 11. Study how the brain works and how writing and storytelling impact the brain.
