VO Senior officials from Laos and Vietnam prepare for 38th committee meeting INTRO: Senior officials from Laos and Vietnam are preparing cooperation documents to be signed by the leaders of both nations at the 38th meeting of the Laos-Vietnam Joint Committee slated for later this year in Laos. STORY: Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment of Vietnam Nguyen Chi Dung called on Deputy Prime Minister in charge of economic affairs Somsavat Lengsavad in Vientiane on Sunday to discuss and review their past cooperation as well as documents to be signed at the 38th meeting. Nguyen Chi Dung updated the Lao Deputy PM about Vietnam's implementation of the Lao-Vietnam cooperation agreements signed over the past year and the progress made in preparing for the 38th meeting. In general, the preparations for the 38th meeting have been accomplished in various fields with both joint committees having presented their respective governments about a draft agreement for cooperation between 2016 and 2020, as well as a draft agreement in regards to development projects using the grant aid provided by Vietnamese government. During the talks, the two sides viewed that trade cooperation was still unable to accomplish the targets set by the governments of Laos and Vietnam.
