HORROR HOUSE GÖTTINGEN: Owner has had enough! "Windows simply stolen!" An apartment block in Göttingen is making headlines: Garbage, rats, and vandalized apartments characterize the scene at Groner Landstraße 9. Over 700 people are registered there – many of them asylum seekers or welfare recipients. But now the heating has failed, and a repair is nowhere in sight. Landlords complain about vandalism and massive rent defaults: Of 161 tenants, 145 are in arrears – the property management company is missing around €850,000. The city and the job center claim powerlessness because many tenants revoke their agreed-upon rent assignments after a short time. Because no tradesperson is willing to work in the dilapidated complex anymore, the apartments remain cold.
