Wachet auf (Wake, Awake, for Night Is Flying) - Jacobus Kloppers   “Sleepers, wake!” or “Wake, awake for night is flying” is based on the parable of the wise and foolish bridesmaids (Matthew 25: 1-13) but contains allusions to many other New Testament passages.  The text and tune, written by the Lutheran pastor, Philipp Nicolai, in 1599 creates a majestic chorale, which was harmonized by J. S. Bach in 1731.
