Spielberg Explains E.T. and A.I.

Spielberg Explains E.T. and A.I.

At the 2002 Telluride Film Festival, director Terry Gilliam and author Salman Rushdie, during a conversation of science fiction films, exchanged a series of criticisms on a handful of Steven Spielberg films, including "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" (1982), and "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" (2001). Most significantly, both Gilliam and Rushdie were under a popular impression that Spielberg had tampered with Stanley Kubrick's vision of "A.I." and had supposedly slapped on the film's half-hour finale at the last minute. Ever wonder what Spielberg might say in response to Gilliam and Rushdie's criticisms? This presentation will give you an idea. "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" is owned by Universal Home Entertainment. "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" is owned by Warner Home Entertainment and DreamWorks Home Entertainment. Richard Schickel's "Spielberg on Spielberg" documentary is owned by Turner Classic Movies. The footage from the Telluride Film Festival was taken from the "Lost in La Mancha" (2002) DVD, property of New Video Group.
