She debuted in her first film, Under the Pampas Moon, in 1935. She went on to star in numerous other high-profile films including titles like Dante's Inferno, Meet Nero Wolfe, Gilda, Human Cargo, and Tales of Manhattan. Gilda, however, was by far one of the most popular films of her career. It was a movie that helped her establish herself as a tried-and-true Hollywood star. Sadly though, her personal life was full of tragedy and controversy. It was especially difficult for her to work through these obstacles and come out on the other side unscathed. For one thing, she never really got the chance to have a normal childhood. She continued to struggle to find a sense of normalcy in her adult life as well as she encountered one toxic relationship after another. Eventually, she also developed some very serious health issues that held her back from aligning herself with her true potential.
