Detectives Seek the Public’s Assistance for Information on Boyle Heights Homicide
March 3, 2026 NR26042cm UPDATE Detectives have released video footage of the suspect’s vehicle and a gray, older model Toyota Rav4 traveling southbound Ditman Avenue from Medford Avenue approximately 2 hours before the shooting. The suspect can be seen exiting the vehicle and approaching an RV before re-entering the vehicle and continuing southbound on Ditman Avenue. March 2, 2026 NR26042jc Detectives Seek the Public’s Assistance for Information on Boyle Heights Homicide Boyle Heights: On August 11, 2024, around 3:57 a.m., Hollenbeck Area patrol officers responded to a radio call of an, “Ambulance Shooting” near the northeast corner of Evergreen Boulevard and Folsom Street. Investigating officers observed the victim who was later identified as Ruben Vergara, laying on the ground in a prone position and having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his torso area. Los Angeles Fire Department responded and treated the victim but, unfortunately, Ruben Vergara failed to respond to medical aid, succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced dead at scene. During the investigation, detectives obtained surveillance video which captured the suspects and the shooting. The suspects drove up to the location, exited their vehicle and approached the victim. The suspects then shot the victim while he was standing on the sidewalk in front of his residence. The suspect is described as a male Hispanic wearing dark clothing. The vehicle used by the suspect is believed to be a black Chevrolet Silverado truck with chrome rims. Detectives are seeking the public's help in identifying the individual responsible for the murder of Ruben Vergara or any witnesses that may have information regarding the incident.
