Revised Common Lectionary Readings for Sunday, January 19, 2025, the Second Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year C) • First Reading Isaiah 62:1-5 • Psalm 36:5-10 • Gospel John 2:1-11 Title: Third Time is the Charm Teaser: Isaiah was written over 200 years with three distinct styles and timeframes. Rather than a stumbling block, it has a comprehensive sweep through the most formative time in early Jewish history. Isaiah 56-66 is called Third Isaiah and it is filled with new hope, and Isaiah 62 has the most hope of all. Jesus's first miracle was turning water into wine at the Wedding in Cana. Mary lets the cat out of the bag and Jesus begins the third part of his life with this miracle. It is so fitting that Jesus's ministry starts with celebration!
