“Pre-’66 Spectacular” R&B Window Card w/Jackie Wilson, Temptations, Bobby Bland, etc.

http://www.postercentral.com A wonderful rhythm & blues concert poster from 1965 advertising the likes of Jackie Wilson, Chuck Jackson, the Temptations, the Drifters and others. This soul-music window card was designed and printed by Posters Inc. on Cherry St. in Philadelphia, a well-known poster-printing company amongst collectors. It uses an unusual color combination of purple, green and yellow, plus red venue information up top, all on a white background. The five-color presentation is very catchy to the eye. This vintage black-music concert poster advertises a show produced by Supersonic Attractions, another well-known entity amongst collectors of these things (such as me!). It was created as a “tour blank,” with the red venue information changing day-to-day, and 80% of the poster down below staying consistent throughout the tour. The very top of this sixties R&B concert poster states, “Pre ’66 Spectacular,” a little funny because it’s still the during summer… you’d expect that headline maybe in the fall or early winter, but during summertime of the previous year? The rest of the acts contained on this 1965 rhythm & blues window card consist of Maxine Brown, Yvonne Fair, Al “TNT” Braggs, Eloise Hester, The Bobby Scott Band, The Joe Scott Band, Georgeous George M.C. and Bill Murry M.C. This vintage soul-music concert poster is walked through and discussed for you today by Pete Howard - music historian, journalist and lifelong collector. Yep that’s me, and if you wish to discuss any of this, you’ll find me at [email protected] or by calling (805) 540-0020.
