Hartford K-9 Officer "Cash"

Hartford K-9 Officer "Cash"

K9 officer “Cash" started April 25th 2012. The purebred red fox labrador became the Hartford Police Department’s first K9 unit. Cash was made possible thanks to a Hartford Police Department fundraiser that garnered more than $100,000. “This whole program was funded 100% by donations. Every single person from Hartford and out of Hartford that donated everything from a penny to $10,000 all contributed to this, so the entire length of the K9 program isn’t gonna cost the city a single thing,” one police official said. One of the biggest donations came from Quad Graphics. The printing company donated $45,000. Officer Cash will be utilized with the department’s traffic narcotics team and the drug recognition expert program. The dog will also be trained for tracking and will be used in a variety of community outreach capacities.
