Gwangjang Co., Ltd., the company's operating entity, was established in 1904 and is also one of the oldest companies in Korea. 광장이라는 이름의 유래는 청계천 3, 4가에 있던 광교와 장교로 광장시장의 위치가 이 두 다리 사이에 있다고 하여 붙인 것. 따라서 한자도 廣場이 아닌 廣藏을 쓴다. 다만, 1905년에 시장 개설 허가를 받을 때는 동대문시장이라는 명칭을 썼다고 한다. The origin of the name Gwangjang was Gwanggyo and Janggyo, which were located in Cheonggyecheon Stream 3 and 4-ga, and it was named because the location of Gwangjang Market was between these two bridges. Therefore, Chinese characters also use 廣藏, not 廣場. However, when the market was approved in 1905, the name Dongdaemun Market was used.
