FEAST OF St. PETER THE APOSTLE//TRI-LINGUAL HOLY MASS BY REV Fr STANLEY KUMAR & REV Fr MARIA ANTHONY

JAIRUS’ DAUGHTER AND THE WOMAN WHO TOUCHED JESUS’ CLOAK Refer: Wis 1: 13-15; 2: 23-24/ 2 Cor 8: 7.9.13-15/ Mk 5: 21-43( 30th June 2024) Saint Peter, also known as Peter the Apostle, Simon Peter, Simeon, Simon, or Cephas, was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ and one of the first leaders of the early Christian Church. He appears repeatedly and prominently in all four New Testament gospels as well as the Acts of the Apostles. After Jesus' death, he served as the head of the Apostles and was the first to perform a miracle after Pentecost (Acts 3:1–11). The two Letters of Peter in the Bible are attributed to his authorship, though some scholars dispute this. His execution was ordered by the Roman Emperor Nero, who blamed the city's Christians for a terrible fire that had ravaged Rome. Peter requested to be crucified upside down, as he felt unworthy to die in the same manner as Christ. Jairus, the official from the local synagogue, had heard about Jesus' reputation as a miracle worker and begged him to cure his sick daughter. Jesus was on his way to Jairus' house when he was interrupted by a woman who touched his cloak to cure her bleeding. The story of Jarius' daughter teaches us of miraculous faith through suffering. Suffering and loss can be lonely ventures in this world. Jairus's daughter represents the very center of Jewish society in that Jairus is “one of the leaders of the synagogue,” while the hemorrhaging woman represents the extreme periphery, i.e., those who are ritually and socially outcast..
