Glowing moon rises over Florida Keys ahead of eclipse
Streaming now at https://abc7chicago.com/watch/live/11.... A beautiful moon rise was captured over the Florida Keys on Thursday night, March 13, ahead of a total eclipse of the full moon, known as a blood moon, in the early hours of Friday morning. Timelapse footage from Daniel Eidsmoe shows the moon rising over the old Bahia Honda rail bridge in Big Pine Key on Thursday. According to NASA, the moon turns an orange-red color as some of the sunlight during the eclipse passes through Earth’s atmosphere. Colors with shorter wavelengths – the blues and violets – scatter more easily than colors with longer wavelengths, like red and orange. Because these longer wavelengths make it through Earth’s atmosphere, and the shorter wavelengths have scattered away, the moon appears orange or reddish during an eclipse. The more dust or clouds in Earth’s atmosphere during the eclipse, the redder the moon appears. https://abc7chicago.com/post/blood-mo...
