Body Water Compartments and Physiological Fluids - 220718 FC 02 ICF versus ECF

The body has two major fluid compartments, Intracellular Fluid, or ICF, and Extracellular Fluid, or ECF. In this physiology video you will get to know, the Physiological Fluids. Fluid Compartments of the body, Constituents of Physiological fluids, Body Water Compartments, and Intracellular Versus Extracellular fluid. Interstitial fluid Versus Plasma, and Effects of ingesting fluids of differing Osmotic Potential. ▬ 📃 Body Water Compartments and Physiological Fluids ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ There are two-three main types of body fluids, which are as follows: Extracellular Fluid or ECF, is further divided into: 🟡 Plasma 🟡 Interstitial Fluid or ISF 🟡 Intracellular Fluid or ICF ▬ 📜 ICF versus ECF ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ The difference between extracellular fluid and intracellular fluid lies mainly in concentrations of ions in the three main fluid compartments or the difference in the composition of body fluid compartments. The prominent Cations of ECF are: 🟠 Sodium 🟠 Calcium The prominent Anions of ECF are: 🟠 Proteins 🟠 Chloride The prominent Cations of ICF are: 🟠 Potassium 🟠 Magnesium The prominent Anions of ICF are: 🟠 Proteins 🟠 Phosphate So, above mentioned ion forms a major composition of body fluid compartments. ▬ 📃 Osmosis and Osmotic Potential ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Osmosis is the passive movement of water across a semipermeable membrane from regions of low solute concentration to those of higher solute concentration. There are the following types of fluid: 👉 Hypertonic Fluid 🔵 Plasma volume expands and becomes concentrated. 🔵 Free movement of water and ions from Plasma leads to expansion of Interstitial fluid. 🔵 Intracellular fluid concentrates. 🔵 Cell shrinks, due to loss of water. 👉 Isotonic Fluid 🔴 Plasma volume expands. 🔴 Free movement of water and ions from Plasma leads to expansion of Interstitial fluid. 🔴 Fluid is isotonic so no osmotic potential is generated between Interstitial fluid and cells. 🔴 The cell remains unaffected. 👉 Hypotonic Fluid 🟢 Plasma diluted. 🟢 Oncotic pressure reduced. 🟢 Water moves into the interstitial fluid. 🟢 The osmotic potential is generated between ISF and cells. 🟢 Cell swells. This was the Body Water Compartments and Physiological Fluids.
