New details on fiery crash near Cleveland Memorial Shoreway
A fiery fatal crash shut down a portion of Eddy Road near the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway late Friday night, and Cuyahoga County officials say one of the vehicles involved was attempting to flee sheriff's deputies before the wreck. Cleveland EMS officials confirmed to 3News Saturday morning that a man believed to be 45 years old was found dead on arrival. A spokesperson for the Bratenahl Police Department later told 3News the deceased person was the driver of the fleeing vehicle. The driver of an uninvolved vehicle, a 48-year-old woman, was hospitalized with serious injuries, police said. According to county spokesperson Jennifer Ciaccia, deputies attempted to pull a car over on East 9th Street in Cleveland for driving erratically around 9:49 p.m. The car did not stop and fled onto Interstate 90. After deputies chased the vehicle on I-90 east, the car drove for several miles and attempted to exit the highway at Eddy Road, but collided with another vehicle while doing so. According to Bratenahl police, the uninvolved vehicle was thrown off a traffic bridge and the driver was ejected. Both vehicles caught fire.
