DAY 17: BOUNDARIES AND AWE
“And you shall set boundaries for the people all around, saying, ‘Beware that you do not go up on the mountain or touch the border of it…’” – Exodus 19:12 (LSB) “Now it happened on the third day… there were thunder and lightning flashes and a heavy cloud upon the mountain… and all the people who were in the camp trembled.” – Exodus 19:16 (LSB) The mountain shook. The sky thundered. And the people trembled. This was not a distant God—this was Yahweh descending to meet His people. But first, He told them to set boundaries. Not to push them away, but to protect them. His holiness is not ordinary. His love is not casual. This is the beauty of reverence: understanding that closeness to God requires honor, awe, and readiness. Boundaries are not barriers to keep us out. They are invitations to approach rightly. Sinai teaches us that our God is both merciful and majestic.
