On This Day (Maronite English Resurrection Hymn)

On This Day (Maronite English Resurrection Hymn)

This is the Qolo hymn from the Maronite Morning Prayer 'Safro' Divine Office prayed on Resurrection Sundays. It is a direct translation and adaptation of Syriac Resurrection hymn 'moryo baq-yomtokh.' It is uses the less common 'moryo lmar'eetokh' Divine Office melody. With permission from the celebrating priest, this hymn could be incorporated in the Liturgy, perhaps as a thanksgiving or Communion hymn. This version of the hymn is sung by two singers bouncing back and forth between lines. This is done to imitate the nature of Divine Office hymns which often require participants to be split into two sides and for each to interchange verses of hymns. Lyrics: I On this day women go to the tomb, bearing spice, to embalm Christ the Lord who had died on the cross. Looking in they behold angels there clothed in white seated where He was placed, at the head and the feet. II And they hear joyful news of life: "Why do you come and seek at the tomb one who lives?" "For Christ rose in great majesty, being clothed with true light honour and dignity!" "Go and tell his apostles now that their hearts gain new strength, comfort and perfect joy." III They will find Christ their Lord waiting in Galilee. He will give power there to bring all back to Him." Source: Saint Raymond's 6pm Sunday Youth Choir
