[Anchor Lead] South and North Korea have agreed to hold reunions of families separated by the Korean War from October 20 for seven days at North Korea's Mount Kumgang resort. It will be the first cross-border family reunions in one year and eight months since the last event in February 2014. The process of selecting participants begins Wednesday. [Pkg] South Korea's Red Cross will first select 500 candidates for the reunions through a computer draw on Wednesday. It will then narrow down the number to 250 after verifying the candidates' health conditions and willingness to participate in the reunion. A final 100 people will be determined after North Korea confirms their surviving relatives in the North. The two Koreas earlier agreed on the reunion following two days of working level marathon talks between Red Cross officials from the two sides. The reunions will take place from October 20 to 26 for 7 days at North Korea's Mount Kumgang resort. One hundred family members will take part from each side. The 100 South Koreans will first meet up with 500 of their North Korean kin during the first 3 days. This will be followed by 100 North Koreans uniting with their relatives from the South.
