Tikrit Still Undergoes Restoration after Damage Caused by IS
The city of Tikrit going under further restoration from the damage caused by the Islamic State (IS) extremists since state security forces made gains in the city less than a month ago. The restoration work in the downtown area has been processed well as traffic on major streets has resumed. "The downtown is in good condition, and electricity and running water are on the way to the city. Some governmental departments including the interior department have gone back to work, and the traffic is almost back to normal," said Hamid Saeed, a policeman. He said the refugees were still not allowed to get back to the city though restoration work has been carried out for more than half a month. "The federal police and the engineering corps are still working in areas like Qadisiyah, as some bombs need to be removed and cleared in those areas. Sometimes there would be explosions when they were working," said Saeed. Wireless communication in the city is blacked out as many bombs were controlled by mobile phones before. Saeed said that safe regions will be demarcated in the city around the end of April, and refugees in those areas will be encouraged to get back to their homes first.
