Occupy Wall Street NY-- The Clash: Know Your Rights
Thousands of Occupy Wall Street Demonstrators gathered in NY's lower Manhattan to shut down the stock exchange 2 days after police cleared out their tent camp & arrested hundreds. Organizers called this a global day of action. Demonstrations were planned across the United States as well as Belgium, Germany, Poland and Spain. In NY police clashed with the protestors to prevent them from reaching Wall Street. Up to 200 arrests were reported. On Tuesday police violently cleared out a tent camp that was erected in Zuccotti Park on September 17. Security forces have also torn down protest camps in several other cities including Oakland, Portland and Dallas. The US has been witnessing demonstrations in dozens of cities since September. People are protesting a variety of issues including bank bailouts, corruption, as well as the growing gap between the very rich and those struggling in the aftermath of the US financial crisis. They also say the US political system is not representing the average Americans but the very rich Americans, which they call the 1%.
