Wednesday of the 30th Week in Ordinary Time Readings for the Mass First Reading: Romans 8:26-30 Brothers and sisters, 26the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. 28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. Responsorial Psalm: Ps 12(13),4-5.6 (R. 6a) R. Lord, I have trusted in your grace! 4Look, Lord, my God, and answer me! †Do not let the light of my eyes be extinguished *and let them be closed, by death, asleep! 5Let the enemy not say to me: “I have triumphed!” *Nor let the oppressor exult over my downfall. R. 6Since I have trusted in your love! †May my heart rejoice in your help, *and may I sing to you for the good you have done for me! R. Gospel: Lk 13:22-30 At that time, 22Jesus was passing through towns and villages, teaching and making his way to Jerusalem. 23Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?” Jesus answered: 24“Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. 25Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us!’ But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’ 26Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’ 27But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’ 28There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out. 29People will come from east and west, from north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God. 30But there are those who are last, who will be called children of God.” "First and first that will be last."
