Parents share memories of 3-year-old killed after hit and run

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The pain of losing their only child has been unimaginable, but a couple is opening up and sharing memories of their 3-year-old girl who was known for her smile. Khloe Pitts died after a hit-and-run near the Cincinnati Zoo. She was only 3-years-old and in those three years, Khloe's parents made life fun for their daughter. Joy White and Dametrice Pitts are holding onto those memories to help them deal with the pain of losing Khloe. "She was just a happy little girl, full of life, just wanted to experience what every child would want to experience which is love and happiness," Joy said. Dametrice added, "She was a daddy's girl. She was a daddy's girl, she truly was and that's all I wanted in life was to watch my baby girl grow up and have fun." That's just what they were doing late last November. The family had been to the Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo. They were going to their car when police say Donteiz is Dickey hit Joy and Khloe and then sped off. Khloe died after roughly two months fighting for her life in the hospital. Her parents were by her side the entire time. Dametrice said, "I was there every day, the whole round, held her in my arms and got a chance to see her." Khloe would respond when she could hear her parents' voices, "When I would sing to her, she would open her eyes and she couldn't, my baby couldn't talk to me though. She couldn't talk to me," said Joy. To get through the pain, they're focusing in on Khloe's amazing smile and memories of the three years they had with their only child. "She was our life. That was all we had. That was all I had," Joy said through tears. Joy's knees were hurt in the accident and she will have to get surgery soon. Donteiz Dickey is in the Hamilton County Jail on a $1 million bond. The couple is working on a memorial service for Khloe. Friends sent up a GoFundMe for the family.
