Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that under ‘Agnipath’ scheme, efforts will be made to create a youthful profile of the Armed forces. The Defence Minister added saying that the ‘Agnivirs’ will be given a good pay package and an exit retirement package after 4 years of service. Who are Agniveers? In order to transform armed forces into youthful, tech-savvy, modern, there’s a need to harness the youth potential and make him a future-ready soldier.” Approximately 45,000 people between the ages of 17.5 and 21 will be inducted into the service for a four-year period under the scheme. The recruitment process will begin in the next 90 days, with the first batch expected to be completed by July 2023. Agniveers would form a distinct rank in the armed forces, different from any other existing ranks. The enrolment will be undertaken through an online centralised system for all three services with specialised rallies and campus interviews from recognised technical institutes After four years, the Agniveers will get a one-time ‘Seva Nidhi’ package that is tax-free and can be used by the individual to further their dreams.
