How Do I Forgive Myself? - Reuben Watson - 9/15/2024

Amity United Church Of Christ September 15, 2024 The Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost Please note: Due to human error, the video is cut short. The Call to Worship – Psalm 19, NKJV L: The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. P: Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. L: There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. P: Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun, L: Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoices like a strong man to run its race. P: Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the other end; And there is nothing hidden from its heat. L: The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; P: The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; L: The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. P: More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. L: Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward. P: Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. L: Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression. P: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer. The Prayer of Confession Father, forgive us. We have failed to deny ourselves and take up the cross You have given us. We have failed to sacrifice, even knowing that Jesus sacrificed all for us. We have chosen our way instead of seeking and following Your way. Help us to set our own desires aside and seek Your will for our lives. Help us to set aside our fears and embrace what You have set in our paths. In Jesus’ name, Amen. The Statement of Faith Statement of Faith We believe in God, the Eternal Spirit, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and our Father, and to his deeds we testify: He calls the worlds into being, creates man in his own image and sets before him the ways of life and death. He seeks in holy love to save all people from aimlessness and sin. He judges men and nations by his righteous will declared through prophets and apostles. In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Lord, he has come to us and shared our common lot, conquering sin and death and reconciling the world to himself. He bestows upon us his Holy Spirit, creating and renewing the church of Jesus Christ, binding in covenant faithful people of all ages, tongues, and races. He calls us into his church to accept the cost and joy of discipleship, to be his servants in the service of men, to proclaim the gospel to all the world and resist the powers of evil, to share in Christ’s baptism and eat at his table, to join him in his passion and victory. He promises to all who trust him forgiveness of sins and fullness of grace, courage in the struggle for justice and peace, his presence in trial and rejoicing, and eternal life in his kingdom which has no end. Blessing and honor, glory and power be unto him. Amen.
