NorCal Evac finds “Fire Dog”

The neighbor of the house that burned down with this German Shepherd in it, flagged us down as we were driving by to check on some loose horses that a fireman had called us about. “Fire Dog” as we came to know him, was in really bad shape. From here, we got ahold of the owners, and got permission to take Fire Dog to the veterinarian where he had to stay for over a month for treatment. The owners did not leave the dog behind, they had been locked out because the fire was coming, and the area remained in mandatory evacuation except to first responders. This neighbor was at home when the fire hit, and watched his own home burn to the ground. Another dog was also in the house and did not make it out. The owners suffered quite a loss. They could not keep the shepherd, so NorCal Livestock Evacuation adopted him. The plan was to “re-home him” but someone got attached after caring for him daily. He’s now living a good life on a ranch where he has free reign and has fully recovered minus some tender feet, an aversion to loud noises, and a single white spot on his nose.
