VICTORIA Sponge Cake A TIMELESS BRITISH Treat for Afternoon TEA
The Victoria Sponge is a classic British cake named after Queen Victoria, who was known to enjoy a slice with her afternoon tea. It’s a simple yet elegant dessert, typically made with equal parts butter, sugar, eggs, and self-raising flour, resulting in a light, fluffy texture. The cake comprises two layers sandwiched with jam (usually raspberry or strawberry) and, often, a layer of buttercream or whipped cream. It became popular in the Victorian era when afternoon tea became a fashionable social event among the British elite. The cake's lightness and simplicity made it ideal for enjoying alongside tea without being overly rich or heavy. Today, the Victoria sponge remains an iconic staple in British baking and is a frequent entry in baking competitions, including the popular TV show The Great British Bake Off. 👇 RECIPE BELOW ❤️Hello, viewers!
