Analogue Tape Glove v1

Analogue Tape Glove v1

Analogue Tape Glove is a sonically explorative device and installation that examines the reappropriation of cassette tape technology for use as an instrument, continuing an ongoing investigation into the creative potential of obsolete or ‘dead media’. This tangible and gestural user interface, taking the form of a modified glove, can be worn by the participant as they are invited to interact with an analogue tape surface. Hundreds of vertically aligned strips of magnetic tape make up this surface, resulting in a physical collage of audio material taken from a variety of found cassette tapes. As the glove comes in contact with the tape, a sonic response is generated which can then be manipulated via the participants hand movement. With the ubiquitous presence of digital media in contemporary society and declining production of the cassette Walkman, Analogue Tape Glove explores the medium of cassette tape in a playful and sonically interesting experience. http://www.signal-to-noise.co.uk
