How to Load Historic Yacht Race Routes into OpenCPN

To practice with optimum sailboat route computations we show how to load historic yacht race routes and the corresponding wind data so we can practice with the many tools in OpenCPN for optimizing a route. An early step is to clean up the beginning and ends of the historic tracks. Once this procedure for obtaining and loading the historic tracks is learned, we can practice in different oceans with different boats. The idea is to start our routing next to a real boat and see how our routes compare. This is also a way to investigate the elusive effect of sea state on route computations. The ECMWF historic data includes sea state, and the routing plugin has several options for making corrections. In this demo, we use a TP52 route from an actual race and from the routing plugin.
