Today, for many of my people is a day of mourning. A day where deeply entrenched grief comes rushing to the surface as debates and socials media posts come in red hot. Today, for many of my people, is a day of celebrating the resilience and survival of the invasion of this nation. It’s a day where we march, paint up, share music, culture, custom, truth and educate others. For some of my people, today is simply ‘Australia Day’ and they are at peace with that decision. As you can see for my people, today is a mixed bag of emotions.  For the rest of the nation though, there are people who are displaced from their homeland becoming Australian citizens. There are also people firing up the BBQ and filling up the blow up pool amongst many other shenanigans. Today is simply a mixed bag. However within this mixed bag the one thing no-one can escape, is the question - do we change the date? Do we change the date to a more inclusive date so my people, The First People of this country, the descendants of the oldest living culture in the world feel included in celebrating the modern nation that we all call home today? Or will we keep the date where a big percentage of my people feel so much sorrow, pain, grief, injustice and more?  That is the question. Will you dare to be a part of creating a better tomorrow? Will you play your role in creating history for the greater good? No matter who you are and what you represent today may you get home to your families safe and sound. #australiaday #survivalday #invasionday #australia #aboriginal #indigenous #aboriginalaustralia
