Airplane Crashed - Atlantic Airways
A BAE-146-200 85 seater, four engine jet overrun the runnway at Stord in Norway 10-10-2006. 12 people were rescued and 4 perished. Reason for crash is said to be inefective deployment of spoilers as this plane has no means of reversing the jetstream from the engines. Rescuework during the important first 3-4 minutes were extremely difficult due to an engine running at full throttle. The cocpit crew attemted to shut down the running engine for about 3 minutes while we were trying to hold the flames at a minimum during evac. Finally when the crew came out they attempted to climb back in the plane to rescue trapped passengers. That's one heroic crew if I ever saw one. Finally as the flames cause the tail to fall to the side, it lands in the middle of the jetstream and molten aluminium starts to spray over us and we have to pull back away from the aircraft.
