Korean Beef and Sea Mustard Soup (소고기 미역국, SoGoGi MiYeokGuk) | Aeri's Kitchen

👩🏻‍🍳 MiYeok Guk is a popular Korean soup. Korean people can eat this soup anytime, but it is very popular for special days like birthdays, weaning days, etc. Sea mustard has good nutrition in it. According to Wikipedia, “In Oriental medicine, seaweed has been used for blood purification, intestinal strength, skin, hair, reproductive organs, and menstrual regularity.” So, it is a common practice in Korea that moms eat sea mustard soup after they birth their babies because Koreans believe that this sea mustard soup gives nutrition to both mom and baby through mom’s milk. There is a funny superstition that some people consider seriously about sea mustard soup: The fresh or soaked sea mustard has a slippery surface. One Korean word for slippery is “미끄러지다,” which can imply that somebody will fall down. Some people try to not to eat sea mustard soup near an important testing day because they do not want to get bad luck from eating it – as to fall down, drop, or fail the test. I personally don’t believe it, but just wanted to share this humorous culture with you. This is a beef version of sea mustard soup, but you can use tuna can, clam, mushroom, or make it without any meat instead. 💌 How to Support Aeri: Subscribe, Comment, Like, Try and Share my Videos 🎁 You can also support me through my Patreon page:   / aeriskitchen   📧 My E-mail: [email protected] ✍️ The Written Recipe Link: http://aeriskitchen.com/2009/03/beef-... 👩🏻‍🏫 Aeri's Korean Lesson YouTube Channel:    / @koreanescent   🧚 Social Media: Blog: http://aeriskitchen.com/ Facebook:   / aeriskitchen   Instagram:   / aeriskitchen     / aeriskitchen   Twitter: https://twitter.com/aeriskitchen?lang=en 🎧 Music: -Aeriskitchen (by Seok-woo Yoon) 🧞‍♀️ Aeri's Stuff: My Canon Eos 80D Camera: https://amzn.to/2C8rDjo My All-Clad Cookware: http://amzn.to/2r1xUuT My Cuckoo Electric Pressure Rice Cooker: https://amzn.to/2rpRWfZ My Cuckoo Multi Pressure Cooker: https://amzn.to/2Rxpd7O My John Boos Cutting Board: http://amzn.to/2nHQPZc My Rada Knife Set: https://amzn.to/2QteaJj My Rada Cutlery French Chef Knife: https://amzn.to/2x4D7mv My Pyrex Glass Mixing Bowl Set: https://amzn.to/2RzTUsZ My KitchenAid Stand Mixer: https://amzn.to/2SzqpoA My Cookbook: http://amzn.to/2nbfjZy 🧞‍♂️ Basic Korean Ingredients: Dried Sea Mustard (미역, MiYeok): http://amzn.to/2pasFn5 Hot Pepper Powder (고춧가루, GoChutGaRu): https://amzn.to/2RADdO7 Hot Pepper Paste (고추장, GoChuJang): https://amzn.to/2LVq5O9 Soy Bean Paste (된장, DoenJang): https://amzn.to/2SKbQ1D Soy Sauce (간장, GanJang): https://amzn.to/2RDQs0m Soup Soy Sauce (국 간장, Guk GanJang): https://amzn.to/2LS28r1 Sesame Oil (참기름, ChamGiReum): https://amzn.to/2Rzm5s7 Sesame Seeds (참깨, ChamGgae): https://amzn.to/2RCIwfS Cellophane Noodles (당면, DangMyeon): https://amzn.to/2LUq90X Cooked Short Grain Rice (햇반, HaetBan): https://amzn.to/2LTJoHJ Dried Anchovies for Broth (다시 멸치, DaSi MyeolChi): https://amzn.to/2LUagaO Dried Kelp (다시마, DaSiMa): https://amzn.to/2FcyjjN Korean Instant Noodles (라면, RaMyeon): https://amzn.to/2Bf7Mzv (We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.) 💕 Thanks for your support.
