US Senate passes $1.7 trillion spending bill
The United States Senate has passed a spending bill worth US$1.7 trillion with the bill giving more than $850 billion to the defence budget. The bill has also banned social media app Tik Tok on federal government phones. A last-minute disagreement over keeping Trump-era immigration policy threatened to stop the bill passing. The bill will keep the government funded till September next year.
