She stars as Alina Starkov in the Netflix fantasy series Shadow and Bone. She was Born in Brighton to an English mother and Chinese-born, Hong Kong-raised father, Li grew up in Redhill, Surrey and has an older brother. Li attended Reigate College. They began studying languages at university, but dropped out. While working with special needs children, she joined the National Youth Theatre in 2015 and trained part-time with Identity School of Acting from 2016 to 2017. Li made her stage debut in February 2019 with the role of Claudia Casswell in All About Eve at Noel Coward Theatre, alongside Gillian Anderson and Lily James. The production was also internationally cinecast via National Theatre Live.
