Brilliant Twelve Guided Meditation: For Burn Out by Andy Lee
This is a series of guided meditations written and recorded by Brilliant Twelve students. You can find the transcript below if you’d like to read along. "Hi, my name is Andy and I’m going to lead you through this guided meditation for dealing with burn out. You can sit in a chair or on a cushion with your back straight and comfortable, your hands relaxed in your lap. Start with your eyes open and take a few deep breaths, breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth. And now gently close your eyes. Sometimes we get overwhelmed and exhausted. We feel like we can’t do anything. This is called burn out. You feel burnt out because you ran too fast. Maybe you let other people’s goals become your own. But you can’t hold it all. Your brain has slowed down, so let’s do that. Let’s slow down. Pay attention to your breath. Take slow, deep breaths in and out. You cannot do it all. You get to say no. Keep breathing deeply. Burn out is your body and your mind asking you to recognize your limits. Slow breath in. Slow breath out. Your body and your mind are asking you to rest. Breathe in. Breathe out. Relax every part of your body and your mind. Breathe in. Your only job now is to breathe. Breathe out. Your only work now is to breathe. That’s all. Just breathe. Rest here in your breath until you begin to feel refreshed. Remember that doing things well often means doing only a few things. Set limits for yourself that keep you healthy and give you plenty of time for rest and play. When you begin to feel overwhelmed, come back to this meditation. Come back to your breath. It’s time to bring your awareness back to your body, back to your breath. Notice where your body is. Begin to roll your shoulders, wiggle your fingers and toes, and when you are ready, open your eyes to the world around you. Great job. You’ve completed your meditation. Thanks for sitting with me."
