OFFICIALS ‘HORRIFIED’ BY POMPEO REMARKS: U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in London, England where he is meeting with British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab and is expected to discuss the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as well as trade as the UK continues to negotiate their Brexit. Last week, Pompeo made headlines for bashing The New York Times’ 1619 project, which is aimed at reframing ‘the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of our national narrative.’ He said it was a ‘Marxist ideology’ and rejected the idea that the history of American slavery continues to influence society today.
