14th Sunday in Ordinary time at Our Lady of Loretto & St Michael in Musselburgh, 04/07/21

A warm welcome to Mass on the 14th Sunday of ordinary time. ‘Familiarity breeds contempt’ is a saying we all know and an experience we have all had. Jesus encounters this in his hometown of Nazareth, quite literally ‘We ken his faither’ or ‘who does he think he is’. I think this can happen to us in our spiritual life. We become too familiar with the things of God, too blasé. We must remind ourselves that the village carpenter, the son of Mary is also the Son of God. He is our brother but also our Lord. Again, it is a matter of preparation reminding ourselves who it is we are coming to meet at Mass: the One who deserves our worship and praise, the love of our hearts.
