Lionel Messi Shares Update After Missing Argentina's World Cup Qualifiers: 'It's Sad...'

Lionel Messi Shares Update After Injury Rules Him Out of World Cup Qualifiers Against Uruguay and Brazil Lionel Messi will miss Argentina’s upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Uruguay and Brazil due to an injury sustained while playing for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer (MLS). The Argentine legend felt discomfort in his adductor during their recent clash with Atlanta United, prompting the club to conduct an MRI scan. The scan confirmed a low-grade injury to his adductor muscle. Inter Miami issued an official statement saying, “His clinical progress and response to treatment will determine his availability for competition.” Messi addressed fans on social media, expressing his disappointment at missing the international break. "It’s sad to miss these two very special matches with the National Team against Uruguay and Brazil," the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner shared on his Instagram story. “As always, I wanted to be there, but a minor injury forced me to stop for a while. I’ll be cheering and supporting like any other fan. Vamos Argentina!” he added. Initially, Messi was named in Argentina's 33-man squad for the qualifiers. Prior to this, he was rested for three matches and returned to action during the CONCACAF Champions Cup tie against Cavalier FC. Argentina's U-23 coach Javier Mascherano earlier clarified that Messi was rested to manage his workload, not because of any injury. Before the Atlanta game, Inter Miami's head coach explained, “We tried to reduce Messi’s workload to prevent any further issues. Luckily, we managed it well, and it didn’t turn into anything serious. Today he’s better, so we started giving him minutes.” Messi made a strong comeback, scoring the opening goal in Inter Miami’s 2-1 win over Atlanta United. He is expected to return to the pitch when Inter Miami faces Philadelphia Union in the MLS regular season on March 29. #LionelMessi #MessiUpdate #ArgentinaFootball #FIFAWorldCupQualifiers #WorldCup2026 #MessiInjury #InterMiami #MLS #ArgentinaVsBrazil #ArgentinaVsUruguay #FootballNews #SportsUpdate #MessiFans #SoccerNews #FootballViral #ViralNews #SportsBuzz #VamosArgentina #BallonDor #BreakingNews
