She also wrote a semi-autobiographical novel called "This is Our Story," about a young lawyer who helps immigrants who are the victims of human trafficking. That novel was panned by an online lawyer-blogger, who described the book as "Wendi Adelson's Criminally Lousy Novel." In this short video, those two specific writings are highlighted with some commentary. Dan Markel was shot in his garage by a hitman, Sigfredo Garcia (whose family was from Cuba), on 7/18/2014. Three days later, his ex-wife Wendi Adelson took their 2 young children and moved away, driving from Tallahassee with her parents to South Florida. The previous year, Wendi Adelson had tried to relocate with the children, but Judge Hobbs denied her motion with prejudice. The hitmen (Garcia and Luis Rivera, whose family is from Puerto Rico) were arrested in 2016, as was an ex-girlfriend of Wendi's brother Charlie, Katie Magbanua (an immigrant from the Philippines). Garcia and Magbanua were convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Rivera became a witness for the State and will serve 19 years total in prison. In November 2023, Wendi Adelson's brother Charlie Adelson was convicted of murder, conspiracy, and solicitation to commit murder. One week later, their mother Donna Adelson was arrested, as she tried to board a plane out of the country at the Miami airport, and charged with the same crimes. Donna Adelson's trial will begin on 8/19/2025 in Leon County, Florida. Music: Inescapable, by Ugonna Onyekwe
