Not very much at all! In fact, we can't even be sure whether Lettice Galbraith is a pen name or her real name. Although, in the preface to the collection of supernatural tales, New Ghost Stories, it is suggested that she may have been the writer Lettice Susan Gibson. Lettice Gibson was born in 1859 and published four novels between 1905 and 1912. Unfortunately, none of these are in print today. The only one I could find available to buy as a used copy is her last work, The Oakum Pickers... It might be interesting to compare writing styles. The voracious appetite of the late Victorians for the weird and macabre was consistently satisfied by writers like Dickens and Le Fanu et al. Such was the commercial demand for this genre that many contemporary authors got involved. But unfortunately, some of these, including Lettice Galbraith, are largely forgotten today. Lettice Galbraith's entry onto the literary scene came in 1893. She published a novel (The Spin of the Coin) and a collection of seven short stories. Her last published work was a short piece of fiction in 1903, and then she "disappeared." A writer who is as mysterious as the tales she told. It's a great shame she is such an enigma because this lady could write! I've read two of her other marvellously macabre tales and am working through the rest of her bibliography. It is already clear to me that Lettice Galbraith was a skilled and exciting writer, prepared to deal with intriguing supernatural themes.
