Jury deliberating in former deputy's trial

By Emily Baucum, News 4 ReporterFacebook: Emily Baucum TVTwitter: @EmilyBaucumSAN ANTONIO -- A jury is now deliberating the fate of a former Bexar County Sheriff's deputy accused of pocketing money set aside to pay confidential informants who gave tips leading to drug busts. The charges stem from cases from the late 2000s when Anthony Alvarado worked in the narcotics unit. The outcome of this trial could force the District Attorney's office to reopen hundreds of cases. Both sides made their closing arguments to jurors late Thursday afternoon. How long do you think it takes for him to go, you know what? I've collected all this money for Bexar County, prosecutor James Ishimoto said. Where's my cut? Where's my money? Why can't I get a little piece of that? The defense told jurors Alvarado never stole money and was the most productive investigator in the narcotics unit. What they do is get from a few folks, 'Did you ever see cash in his pocket?' 'A lot of times.' 'Oh, then he must have stolen it.' defense attorney Mike McCrum said. That's speculation. That's just not right.
