What is Fairtrade Cotton? Why Support It?

This video gives an insight into why we are passionate about being Fairtrade. It features some of our cotton farmers and our partners in India- they detail their first hand experience of working within the global cotton industry. India is the world’s second largest textile producer The industry supports over 105 million people Cotton comes with a lot of risks. As a result of climate change, crop failure is on the rise. Instead of compensating for these lower yields, global markets and fast-fashion trends are demanding more for less. Fairtrade understands that millions of people are poor not because they don’t work hard. They are poor because they get a tiny percentage of the value of the goods that we buy from them. Fairtrade is an independent guarantee that the producers get a minimum price and a premium on top. It ensures there is no gender discrimination, no child labour, and that producers earn a sustainable livelihood. Consumers should ask tough questions and should pay more. Otherwise, in 10-20 years, we might not see cotton being grown globally. Video shot and edited by The Collins Brothers.
