Wilfried Hiller: 'Schmetterlingswalzer' (Butterfly Waltz) for piano

This is one of two 'Miniaturen für Kinder' by the German composer Wilfried Hiller (b.1941) who specialised in music for children and families, especially stage works: community music, if you like. It was published in Schott's 'New Piano Pieces for Children' (1986) alongside music by a whole range of European composers. The waltz is marked 'zart schwebend', (fluttering around delicately) and is based on two alternating chords (b minor followed by g major 7) in the left hand. The third beat is not accented, as in a sarabande. There is one moment of pianistic difficulty towards the end and Hiller provides an alternative for children and those with small hands, but I have chosen the more difficult option. The easier version would be suitable for grade 3 provided you can stretch an octave comfortably (it appeared on the Australian AMEB syllabus a while ago, so I have included it in the grade 3 playlist).
