PS5 is nearing 70 million consoles sold and with Xbox working on a next generation Hybrid PC Console in 2026, could PS6 be the retaliation to Xbox hardware plan paired with PC as soon as 2027? Marketing analysts have predicted Sony to release the PS6 in 2027. Does 2027 seem too soon? Yeah, probably if you just bought a PS5 Pro in 2024. I'm going to give you a fair and educated prediction for PS6 based on current trends and marketing strategies employed by Sony and PlayStation. PS5 released at the end of 2020 and Mark Cerny called the PS5 Pro a mid-gen console refresh. The PS5 Pro came with an overclocked chip set with a 45% boost in graphics power. So far all the Pro can do with current games over the Xbox Series X is increase resolution. Xbox Series S and X consoles both launched alongside the PS5 at the end of 2020. PS5 Pro is the mid generation refresh Console, to take mid generation literally, would puts an expected PS6 in Holiday of 2028. Xbox is reportedly planning to launch next generation with a hybrid PC-like console with the most technological leap ever, as early as 2026 or as late as 2027. To hold dominance over the high end console market as Xbox vs PlayStation, Sony has to do two simple things; Number one, drop the price of the PS5 Pro from $700 to $600 to price prepare the consumers for the next generation PS6 price point. Experts predict the next Xbox Hybrid Console to be priced at $600-$700 and PlayStations offering of a slightly improved mid-gen PS5 Pro at $100 cheaper than Xbox will take the possible reemergence of Xbox hardware when value propositioned with PC features and games support. Number Two; at the risk of insulting the millions that adopted the PS5 Pro, Sony will need to announce plans for the PS5 sooner rather than later, instead of waiting for the 6-12 month window of revealing a console and bringing it to market. With Xbox's very low market position, PlayStation doesn't have to worry about the Xbox name, but by the end of the 2020s, PlayStation First Party games will be available to play on Xbox's Hybrid PC Console via Steam and Epic Game Store. PlayStation has one major problem. The remainder of the PS5 generation is severely lacking in First Party game support with 10-12 of their 2025-2028 games canceled and a handful of first party studios closures, creating a three year gap of games roadmap empty, until teams can recover new game development or rush remasters. 2027 or 2028? Xbox is set according to rumors to start their console hardware generation in 2026 or 2027. It's not far fetched to expect Sony to tease the PS6 in their next big Showcase in 2025 or 2026. With Xbox having a major dominance is provided games making Microsoft and Xbox far more money with the majority of the revenue and profit bolstering Xbox as a Publisher, PlayStation has a large user base and a meteoric lead in hardware sales. When Xbox releases their next console, a Hybrid PC Console with access to Steam, Epic Games, Ubisoft, GoG and EA, plus the 10,000 plus Xbox console game library, All paired with the greatest value in gaming on PC and console with Game Pass This will massively overshadow the value in games offering available on the upcoming PS6.
