One study compared curcumin to 5-fluorouracil, a chemotherapy drug. Turmeric has been shown to be as effective as anti-inflammatory drugs, especially for irritable bowel disease and digestive problems. It may also help reduce blood pressure and inhibit pathogens, especially fungi. To prepare turmeric water, combine ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder, a pinch of black pepper, and half of a lemon in a glass of warm water. To prepare golden milk, combine ½ teaspoon of turmeric, ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon, and a pinch of black pepper in a cup of milk or coconut milk. Heat the mixture and turn off the heat just before it comes to a boil. If you have a cough, try drinking a cup of hot water with a teaspoon of turmeric and a tablespoon of raw honey.
