Department of Health calls for calm as hand-foot-and-mouth disease cases increase in KZN

The National Department of Health has called for calm as the cases of hand-foot-and-mouth disease increase in some parts of KwaZulu-Natal. As of yesterday, 195 cases were recorded in the KZN, with 89 of the cases recorded at the Lenham Primary School in Phoenix. The disease is a fairly common viral infection which mainly affects infants and children under the age of five. To give us an update, we are joined virtually by Doctor Vuyiswa Kumalo, Medical Officer from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases' Outbreak Response Unit.
