COVID-19: New lockdown what you can and can't do
On Saturday Boris Johnson announced that England will be entering a renewed lockdown from Thursday. In March the UK endured a tough shut down which saw non-essential shops closed, people were told to work from home and to only leave home for exercise, shopping for essential goods or health reasons. However, this new lockdown which comes into effect from 5th November until 2nd of December at the earliest differs in some ways from the original one back in Spring. Unlike before schools will remain open, with the government arguing that it is vital children remain in classrooms and are safe from coronavirus. Everyone will be told they must stay at home except for specific reasons. These include if you cannot work from home, for medical reasons, essential shopping, exercise, childcare and care for the vulnerable. A new system of support bubbles is also now available, which means that if you are a single adult living alone, or a single parent with children under 18, you can meet with one other household of any size. Anyone can meet one other person from another household outside in a public space. Meetings in gardens or indoors with other households are forbidden. All non-essential shops will close but will be available to order online. Pubs, bars and restaurants will also have to shut with takeaway services allowed instead. Other establishments which must close their doors include places of worship, gyms, swimming pools and beauty salons. Funerals are permitted up to 30 people, but weddings are not allowed unless in exceptional circumstances. All non-essential travel is banned including both public and private transport. Vulnerable people are this time not being told to shield however are warned to be particularly careful.
