AMISOM troops backing the Somali National Army (SNA) continue their renewed offensive against the al Shabab militants in different parts of the country, with the latest conquest being Buula Burde town in the Hiran region. This brings to 6 the number of towns captured from the Al Qaeda supported insurgents this month. Buula Burde is located about 125 kilometers from Belet weyne in South Central Somalia. The al Shabaab fighters had earlier fled the town without putting up much resistance but later regrouped and launched attacks under the cover of darkness. They were repelled by SNA and AMISOM forces and suffered significant losses during the assault.
