Boulders intersect the first section of path, illustrating that the journey of an individual out of homelessness onto a healthier and happier life course often features obstacles. The bench and pergola are a sheltered resting place, with the water feature providing an opportunity for reflection. The planting reflects an abandoned, or regenerating, moist garden in the shade of cutleaf alder (Alnus glutinosa) and hazel trees (Corylus avellana).
