Blow Fly Laying Eggs

I put a small piece of a pink salmon carcass near some Northwestern Twayblade orchids. We think this orchid releases a odor to attract Dryomyza flies for cross pollination. To prove this we needed to document the flies with the orchids pollinia attached. Since these flies typically come to salmon carcasses to feed and lay their eggs I thought this might be a good way to observe them. I focused a Panasonic DMC fz200 camera on the piece of salmon and left the area. This camera will typically run for about 4 hours in the video mode. I picked it up after about 2 hours. During that time a blow fly visited the salmon and fed and laid eggs on the flesh. These flies typically lay eggs on salmon carcasses and their larvae, called maggots, feed on the flesh. I was pleased by how the camera worked and think it might be a good way to document Dryomyza flies with the orchids pollinia attached.
