Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition è una rivisitazione oscura e avvincente della saga di Castlevania. L’apocalisse è ormai imminente e la Terra è dominata dal male. L’alleanza del mondo con i Cieli è minacciata da una forza oscura e malefica, i misteriosi Signori dell’Ombra. Le vicende raccontate nel titolo hanno luogo nel lontano 1047, quando l’umanità si trova costretta a fronteggiare la fine del mondo a seguito di una serie di catastrofi e attacchi di creature demoniache che stanno causando morte e distruzione sulla superficie del pianeta. Tuttavia, per evitare un triste destino all’umanità c’è una speranza. Un’antica profezia narra, infatti, la venuta di un cavaliere dallo spirito puro, tanto forte e coraggioso da fronteggiare i signori dell’oscurità e ottenere i loro poteri, divenendo egli stesso una sorta di semi-Dio che spazzerà tutte le creature mostruose e maligne dal mondo. Ovviamente questo cavaliere non sarà altri che Gabriel Belmont, membro della Confraternita della Luce, che intraprende un viaggio apparentemente suicida nelle lande dei signori dell’oscurità non solo per restituire la pace sulla Terra, ma soprattutto per riportare in vita la sua amata Marie, uccisa proprio un paio di giorni prima del suo viaggio. La storia, sebbene possa sembrare apparentemente banale e scontata, è raccontata attraverso le pagine di un libro e grazie alle numerose cutscene di cui il titolo è infarcito, dove incontreremo e interagiremo con un buon numero di personaggi che finiranno per farci riflettere sul binomio luce/oscurità presente nell’essere umano, argomento già preso in esame in numerose altre produzioni.
